Grand Reopening and Opal Design Award Celebration - October 2019

On October 20th, Paloma Sanchez, The Art of Jewelry, held an event to celebrate both her newly renovated gallery at Nali Patio, Sanlitun, and her achievement at the International Opal Jewelry Design Award in Australia. She was awarded first place for the Most Prestige Professional Jewelry Design for 'Medusa’s Sting' (pictured above). The piece features a 39.18ct black Australian opal (sourced from the Lightning Ridge mine) accented with diamonds, sapphires, and tsavorites, all set in 18kt yellow gold. The name “Medusa” was inspired by Greek mythology; in Spanish, jellyfish is called “medusa.”

The newly renovated gallery features an extended open area in the front, providing more space. Medusa's Sting is displayed at the entrance, allowing guests to easily view the piece. On the right-hand side, there is a couture dress custom-designed by haute couture Chinese designer Atelier Ray Salenteya.

The design of the couture dress was intended to complement the colors of the opal. The fabric used for the dress illuminates different colors when viewed from various angles, similar to the play of color in opals. Paloma had the privilege of wearing this couture dress when she received her award at the International Opal Jewelry Design Award in Australia.

Paloma Sanchez is a G.I.A.-certified gemologist and a Spanish jewelry designer. Her jewelry designs are inspired by her travels around the world, where she handpicks gemstones straight from the mine. Her passion for hunting the best quality gemstones allows her to create one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces. Her gallery in Beijing has been recommended by the Louis Vuitton Beijing Guide, and her jewelry has been featured in several magazines, including Vogue Spain and Hong Kong Jewelry Magazine.

Opal, as the October birthstone, is one of her favorite gemstones, and it is once believed to embody the virtues and powers of all colored stones hundred of years ago. On the below is a photo of Paloma at the Ethiopian Opal mine.
