Age of Glory Collection Launch – December 2015
Paloma Sanchez, in collaboration with Duoyu, launched the “Age of Glory” jewelry collection, juxtaposing beautiful Tibetan antiques with exquisite jewelry design into 10 exceptional pieces of jewelry
Duoyu provided Tibetan treasures, including the secret dZi (prounced “zee”). Dzi has several meanings. In Tibetan language, dZi means solemn, prestigious, rich, and graceful. dZi is the generic category name for ancient agate stone beads which are natural stones that are color enhanced and decorated. In ancient Tibet, only the most prestigious Living Buddha can possess dZi. dZi can be in different forms: the round pattern is called eye; ambers which are over millions of years old, and the unique Tibetan keys.

With Paloma’s liberal use of gold in every piece, her collection is given the name “Age of Glory.” All over the world for centuries, gold has been used as currency, treasure, and as jewelry because gold is stable and never loses its color or value. Gold is the symbol of satisfaction, luxury, glory and magnificence. It is also the first of the seven treasures of Buddhism. In many Buddhist sutras, gold is the most important item to practice Buddhism. As gold is also a common element in both east and west cultures, it serves as the perfect “bridge” between western jewelry design and gemstones and Tibetan antiques.
Paloma says, “It’s a brand new experience for me, and a new life for the antiques. I love Tibetan antiques; I can’t help being attracted to them. All of the pieces I worked with have special meanings, whether it’s Tibet tradition or Buddhism meanings. Beyond their natural beauty, I felt they also have protection or unique energy field with them. That’s the captivating part of this amazing project. ”
Paloma spent an entire year to create these 10 pieces, transforming antiques into a work of art. She integrated them into western jewelry design while preserving their natural beauty. The jewelry gives new life to antique art, and each piece is one of a kind
“Age of Glory” collection is part of Duoyu’s Nirvana Project which has the goal of showcasing the originality and beauty of antiques within world-class jewelry design. Nirvana Project jewelry combines western design with traditional Tibetan treasures, and makes them shine with a new beauty throughout the world.
One drawing card was an amazing pair of amber specimens, nicknamed the “King of Amber” and “Queen of Amber”.
King of Amber (diameter 7.8 cm, width: 5.5 cm, weight: 195.2 g) This amber specimen has both the highest quality and exceptional size, and thus is quite rare. Its shape and color density are exquisite. If you were to get close, you could smell the sap of a pine tree. It won China’s Annual Amber Contest in 2014, and was given the sobriquet, King of Amber. It rarely can be viewed by the public, so event attendees had a special privilege.
Queen of Amber: (diameter?7.8 cm, width: 3.9 cm, weight: 89.5 g) A second specimen, nicknamed the Queen of Amber, is also quite rare for its exceptional size and quality. One says that when light shines through, it looks like the cosmos is inside. This amber was offered up to Buddha on a Buddhist tower for many years and was worshiped by countless Buddhists.
The launch event took place in the trendy art district 798, and featured special exhibits, famous Tibetan singers, and speeches. Guests from the world of art and culture, entertainment, fashion, sports, business and politics along with the media attended to get the first look at “The Age of Glory”.
