The Big Launching of a New Sapphire Jewelry Line - Natural Blue Sapphire - October 2016
My last stop in Sri Lanka was full of glamour and exquisite sapphire jewelry: the big launch of a new sapphire jewelry line - Natural Blue Sapphire. The event was hosted by the Fine Jewelry Company (FJC), headed by Faiq Salie Group chairman and president of the family jewelry brand. Among the honorable guests were minister Kabir Hashim, general secretary of the United National Party and minister of highways, higher education and investment promotion; finance minister Ravi Karunanayake; Mr. Niraj Wickremesinghe, the prime minister's brother, and Mrs. Rosy Senanayake, the prime minister's secretary.
Since Aly’s family has produced the finest quality cuts of sapphire for generations, it’s no surprise that their sapphires are particularly gorgeous. This is where artisanship and technological know-how really matter. The sapphires are precision-cut and heated using a very special (secret!) method, and, of course, calibrated for consistent color and size for jewelry making. No wonder the company is a registered vendor of Tiffany & Co.
The news is that they invited me to be a featured designer with these amazing stones! I will likely design about 10 pieces at the outset.
Where can you find my pieces? For the first time, my jewelry will be available in the air—on Sri Lankan Airlines and Malindo Air, that is. FJC signed a contract to offer their jewelry exclusively onboard, as well as through their usual retail and distribution channels. I’ll let you know when that takes flight.
Check out some pictures from a glamorous evening. A one-of-a-kind Natural Sapphire Blue tiara was created for the occasion and worn by Miss Tourism International (from the Netherlands). Government ministers and officials, prominent mine owners, the famous Thai actress Nampetech Sunannipar, and of course, many members of Aly’s family were also in attendance.
